Does thickness in Dishwasher Liquid or Gel cause white patches? | DOT Home Care Explains
At DOT Home Care, we hear this question often.
Let’s make it simple and transparent.
❌ No — thickness itself does NOT create white patches.
But the wrong thickening chemicals used by many brands can leave a white, cloudy layer on your dishes. Be it a branded product or a bazaar product, if you have seen white patches, you should avoid using it.
💡 What actually causes white patches?
1️⃣ Hard Water (High TDS) – The No.1 reason
Calcium & magnesium from hard water mixed with cleaners that contains thickeners (SLES) causes white patches on the dishes → forming white spots.
2️⃣ Incorrect or weak dishwasher detergent formula
If the detergent cannot dissolve minerals, white marks appear.
3️⃣ Missing dishwasher salt & rinse aid
Without these, the machine cannot soften water or prevent spotting.
4️⃣ Poor dissolving of thick gels from some brands
If the gel doesn’t release properly from the detergent tray,
it leads to half-washed dishes → white patches.
💚 So what about thickness in the product?
✔ Thickness ≠ White patches
DOT Home Care formula avoids carbomers, gums, SLES paste and other cheap thickeners that leave residues.
✔ Many brands use thickeners that don’t dissolve fully
Ingredients like carbomer, CMC, HEC or salt-based thickeners stay on dishes as a white film.
✔ DOT dissolves instantly
